Roller skate dancers, skateboarders, surfers, bodybuilders, tattoo artists, and custom car enthusiasts all find their scene in Venice Beach. Muscle Beach is a designated area where fanatic bodybuilders pump iron in a public display of strength. The famed bodybuilding mecca, which moved from Santa Monica to Venice in the 1970s, is credited with the advent of the physical fitness revolution that swept the country. The Venice Canals, for which this beach community is named “Venice of America,” were originally constructed so that Venice Beach would emulate Venice, Italy.
